7 course Japanese taster menu at Kyashii
I recently went to Kyashii with a good friend (and fellow sushi lover) of mine using the Groupon deal “Seven Course Japanese Taster Menu For Two for £52” I couldn’t say no to 7 courses for £26 each instead of the usual £58 per head!
Kyashii is based on Upper St Martin’s Lane, just minutes away from the hubbub of Leicester Square and Central London tourists. The Japanese eatery is striking from the moment you walk into the place and has a very futuristic feel about it – fluorescent yellow lighting flashes mixed with white leather minimalist features.
The full menu boasted a vast array of culinary options, allowing guests to devour classic sushi dishes or if brave enough to try some innovative takes on Japanese cuisine.
Our Taster Menu consisted of:
• Steamed edamame with natural sea salt
• Scallop carpaccio with fresh mango, strawberry & yuzu dressing
• Pan-grilled minced pork gyoza
• Chirashi & house maki rolls with assorted sashimi fillings & Japanese pickles
• Kushiyaki skewers with grilled chicken, salmon, shiitake mushrooms
• Kyashii tempura with king prawn, squid, white fish, aubergine, shiitake mushrooms, sweet potato & asparagus
• Fillet of chicken with teriyaki Sauce
• Japanese steamed rice
• Miso soup with tofu, wakame and spring onions
Our table was booked quite early, for 7pm and when we got there it seemed we had the restaurant to ourselves. Although normally this would be off putting to see an empty restaurant, the warm welcome that we received reassured us.
We opted for a cocktail each, which was absolutely delightful and as well as looking beautiful tasted great too. The surroundings in the restaurant were lovely – we were sat by a wall length fish tank, which I absolutely loved (they always remind me of the scene in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version of Romeo & Juliet!)
The level of service we received was impeccable, and the food was absolutely delicious. The scallop carpaccio was out of this world and the fruity dressing accompanied it perfectly. The miso soup at the end of the meal was just what we needed to digest our food down! After seven delightful courses, we had to resist the temptations for dessert as although our head wanted to say yes, our tummies were definitely saying no!
I would definitely recommend this place, it is well worth a visit and the venue boasts four different dining areas as well as a Champagne lounge, which I am yet to try out!
