Profile 66 – Valhrona & Hotel Cafe Royal

The Café at Hotel Café Royal boasts a magnificent window of macarons and lavish sweet treats on any given day, drawing in tourists aplenty due to its perfect Piccadilly location. I was one of the lucky few to join in the Chocolate Week celebrations last Tuesday night when The Café closed its doors to the public, letting those inside in on the unveiling of some new chocolate delights.

For the first time, the prestigious French chocolatier Valrhona, has teamed up with the Hotel Café Royal to create a chocolate, exclusive to the Hotel. Developed by the hotel’s charming pastry chef Andrew Blas, all chocolate found in the hotel’s food and beverage eateries will now be made from the new Profile 66 Bar.


Aptly named, due to the percentage of cocoa in the bar, the chocolate is made from a mix of the finest cocoa beans in South America and Africa and will be on sale to the public from Easter 2015, priced at £5 for a 100g bar.

After hearing Andrew speak so passionately about the year long process to create the ‘perfect’ chocolate it was clear to see his determination and creative flair, something that is also reflected in the chocolate itself. Almost like a fine wine, Andrew has cleverly ensured that Profile 66 will take you on a journey in taste, experiencing at first floral notes, which are closely followed by nuttiness and a hint of spice but finally resulting in that warm and wonderfully silky finish that we all know, love and crave!


To celebrate Chocolate Week (13th – 19th October), the café had a cocoa-centric menu available to take away or to enjoy alongside the chocolate sculpture centrepieces within the impressive marbled space. Delectable chocolates are available as well as signature pastries and artisan cakes. To complete the experience for the ultimate chocoholics, The Café will also served three bespoke “Choc Tails” designed by the hotel’s creative mixology team at £13 each: Pearfect, Madame D and Gold Whisper.
