Hixter Bankside Review

I was lucky enough to stumble across this hidden gem a few days ago and boy am I glad I did!

Situated on Great Guilford Street, the place has been open for a few months now and offers a great lunchtime or pre theatre treat in the restaurant with a cocktail bar downstairs.

I opted for the £9.95 Early Bird & Bull which is on offer every weekday from 11.30am – 4.30pm. The choice is almost too much, varying from a Goosnargh chicken burger and chips to De Beauvoir Smoked Salmon ‘Hix Cure’ with Scrambled Burford Brown Eggs or even a fillet steak sandwich with fried onions and chips.

As the Hix restaurants are all about the steak AND chicken, I felt compelled to order the Cock n Bull – half chicken, half steak sandwich and chips and I am bloody glad I did! Served on glorious bread amongst an almost coleslaw like flavoured lettuce lay some rather juicy chicken and even juicier steak pieces with an onion ring amidst the sandwich, obviously thrown in for good measure!

For a spot of lunch this is the place to go! I need to make my way back to the basement next time to try out Mark’s bar.

Oh, and if you wanted to try something a bit different…I’d recommend the Cock Shot (£5) Ketel One Vodka with chicken consommé and spices…definitely a conversation starter!
