Spaghetti House – Christmas Menu

If Spaghetti House were a person – it would be a plump Italian mama, that gives a bloody good hug and makes a mean Tiramisu!

WHO?

Achille Travaglini, the Group Head Chef  at London’s independent Italian restaurant group, Spaghetti House has designed this year’s Menu Natalizio for us to enjoy over the Christmas period.

WHAT?

The Christmas menu, available from  21st November to 24th December.

You can choose 2 courses for £16.95 or go all out (well, it is Christmas, if you can’t indulge now then when else can you!?) with  3 courses at a reasonable £19.95.

The menu includes speciality starters such as chicken liver pate with garlic toast and red onion chutney and a very 80s inspired prawn cocktail (with a little dash of Brandy for the festive season). The two showstoppers though, are by far the cream of chickpea and chestnut soup and the baked aubergines stuffed with basil and ricotta. I am not a huge soup fan, but it was so velvety smooth and creamy that I found it hard not to like, and the chestnuts really gave it that extra Christmas sparkle.

For mains you can go traditional with turkey and all the trimmings or opt for some handmade tortelloni parcels filled with mushroom and truffle in a mushroom sauce. The star of the mains for me has to be the ever so delicately cooked sea bass fillet with wonderfully buttery mustard mash.

WHY?
I adore everything about Italy, in fact I am 99% sure that I must have been Italian in a past life – there is no other fathomable reason for me to be so besotted with a culture. A sizeable chunk of my love is of course dedicated to the Italian cuisine and what could be better than your bog standard Italian fare? Well Christmas of course – Italian style!

I generally tend to steer clear of chain restaurants, opting for smaller independent eateries, but with just 10 London locations, Spaghetti House, is by no means as commercial as the likes of Pizza Express or Zizzis. This tiny detail is easily noticeable straight away from the warm and inviting atmosphere and almost retro, homely feel.

If you want something uber modern and quirky, this is not the place for you, but if you are after something more nostalgic and homely then Spaghetti House is the one! What’s more, the 3 course menu also has an option to include half a litre of wine for just £10 extra – an easy sell for me!
